On November 24, our team members in the UK participated in a charity football match against Hitachi, raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK. The evening brought together employees, supporters, and partners for a spirited competition driven by purpose and shared commitment.
Setting the Stage
Played at Stockport Sports Village on a chilly autumn night, the match began with little insight into how each team would perform. Both sides approached the event with enthusiasm, knowing the true goal was supporting a cause that touches millions of families worldwide.
A Competitive First Half
Hitachi opened the scoring before Phil Plant equalized for Novanta. The rest of the half demanded strong defensive work, particularly from Tomasz Sobczyk, who delivered four critical goal-line clearances and earned Man of the Match recognition. A late Hitachi goal gave them a 2–1 lead at the break.
Second-Half Rally and Final Score
The team reset with fresh energy after halftime. Despite conceding again early, Novanta responded with determination:
- A well-worked attack set up Anthony Dunn to bring the score to 3–2
- A composed finish from Matthew Brierley tied the match
- A retaken penalty, converted by Dom Diba, put Novanta ahead
- Another Brierley goal extended the lead
- A late Hitachi strike made it 5–4, but Declan Cotter secured the final goal in stoppage time
Final score: 6–4 Novanta.
More Than a Match
Beyond the goals and highlights, the night reflected what matters most: teamwork, competitive spirit, and commitment to our community. Players, supporters, and volunteers came together under the Stockport lights to advance a cause that touches countless lives.
We’re proud of how our team represented our culture—showing heart, perseverance, and unity from kickoff to final whistle.
