In advanced technology organizations, many of the most important challenges are complex, cross-functional, and time-sensitive.
Addressing them effectively requires more than individual expertise. It requires a structured approach to problem solving and a collaborative environment where teams can work through issues together.
One effective approach is the “problem solving boot camp” model, where cross-functional teams bring real business challenges into a focused workshop environment and work through them using structured methods.
Recently, teams from across our Advanced Surgery business gathered in Berlin for a problem-solving boot camp. Over three days, engineers, commercial leaders, and operational experts collaborated on live business problems ranging from product development complexity to revenue forecasting and regulatory documentation. The results were tangible.
One team reduced development complexity by creating a glide path to cut requirements by more than 50 percent for a new product introduction program. Another developed a plan to close a revenue forecast gap within the first half of the year. A third team reduced projected delays in post-market documentation by 70 percent.
Other teams focused on improving engineering efficiency and restoring on-time delivery performance for new product programs.
The value of this model lies in its practicality. Instead of discussing hypothetical scenarios, teams apply problem-solving tools directly to the challenges they are currently facing.
Participants leave not only with a deeper understanding of the methodology but also with concrete actions and measurable improvements already underway.
As technology organizations continue to grow in complexity, structured collaboration and disciplined problem solving are becoming increasingly important capabilities.
When teams come together with a shared framework and a focus on real outcomes, progress can happen much faster than many expect.
