That\u2019s why precision and ultra-fine levels of accuracy are so important to system integrators. Micromachining uses different types of processes such as drilling. This process refers to drilling a hole as small as 10 \u00b5m on any material achieving smooth edges regardless of the target material. Another process is laser machining and micro milling. Depending on the application and laser, there are various fabrication processes available and they differ in throughput, accuracy and performance. Some examples are: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Via-Hole Drilling- laser hole drilling on thin materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flex PCB drilling and trepanning- drilling holes or removing materials on circuits from panels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ceramic hole drilling and shape cutting- for alumina or other ceramic materials to cut or drill any shape or non-linear cuts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conductive film patterning- for flat panel and touch screen display processing, for example patterns of a variety of materials like glass, plastic, ceramics, film, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solar cell manufacturing- PERC, SE, drilling, edge isolation and scoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"284\" src=\"https:\/\/novanta.com\/precision-manufacturing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2026\/04\/image_812e49.png?quality=85&#038;strip=all\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2431\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-application-challenges-micromachining-solves\">Key Application Challenges Micromachining Solves<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Micromachining and \u2013an even smaller field\u2013 nanotechnology are key players in solving specific application challenges in manufacturing micro and compact components.\u00a0 These may range from biomedical applications to chemical microreactors and sensors.
