Slab resolvers are used extensively in motion control applications for the feedback of rotational position and velocity. The term \u2018slab resolver\u2019 refers to a resolver<\/a> with a large diameter relative to its axial height. Typically, slab resolvers also have a large bore<\/a> to accommodate through shafts, electrical cables, hydraulic pipes etc.<\/p>\n\n

Slab resolvers have a long track record for providing reliable position and velocity feedback as well as commutation without being restricted by the environmental limits imposed by other sensing techniques. The shock and vibration levels encountered in aerospace, or heavy industrial equipment are typically within the operating envelope for most slab resolvers.<\/p>\n\n

Zettlex Technology vs Slab Resolvers<\/h2>\n\n

Along with synchros, RVDTs, RVITs and Inductosyns\u2122, Slab resolvers are considered a \u2018traditional\u2019 form of inductive position sensor, and have a number of disadvantages when compared with their modern equivalents. Zettlex IncOders<\/a> are based on the same fundamental physics as slab resolvers and so offer the same high levels of robustness. Using laminar constructions with printed circuits as opposed to traditional bulky spools of wire, IncOders are less costly, more compact and lighter, providing an optimal solution for engineers with much greater design and integration flexibility. Zettlex IncOders\u2019 low height, large inner diameter and tolerance to misalignment make installation easy in applications such as pan and tilt pedestals, gimbals mounts and rotary joints.<\/p><\/div>\n\n
