Employee engagement is often discussed through the lens of survey results.

But the most effective organizations understand that engagement is not a score. It is the everyday experience employees have at work.

Do people understand what is expected of them? Do they have opportunities to use their strengths? Do they feel connected to their work, their team and the organization’s purpose?

These questions are central to Gallup’s Q12 framework and are increasingly important as organizations navigate rapid growth, technological change, and evolving workforce expectations.

Research consistently shows that highly engaged teams outperform their peers across measures including productivity, retention, innovation and customer outcomes. But engagement does not happen by accident. It is built through intentional leadership, meaningful communication and a culture that supports growth.

At Novanta, engagement is closely tied to how we develop talent and build high-performing teams.

Our success depends on creating environments where employees can contribute their best work, collaborate effectively, and continue developing new capabilities.

That requires more than annual surveys. It requires ongoing conversations.

To support those conversations, we recently launched an employee video series built around Gallup’s Q12 questions. Employees are sharing their perspectives on topics such as strengths, recognition, growth and team connection, bringing real-world experiences to concepts that are often discussed only in theory.

The goal is simple: create greater awareness of what helps people thrive at work and encourage meaningful dialogue across teams.

Strong organizations are built by strong teams. Strong teams are built through trust, clarity, development and connection.

When employees understand how their work contributes to a larger purpose, have opportunities to grow, and feel empowered to share ideas, both people and businesses benefit.

Engagement is not separate from performance. It is one of the foundations that makes performance possible.
