Robots are becoming more intelligent and more capable across industries. From manufacturing to healthcare, they are transforming how work gets done.

At the center of that transformation is motion

Robotic joints are the systems that enable robots to move with precision, strength, and control. They combine motors, drives, encoders, and sensors to convert energy into purposeful action.

While these components are often hidden, they are essential to every robotic system.

The Building Blocks of Motion

Robotic joints function similarly to the human body. Motors generate movement and encoders provide feedback on position and speed, while drives coordinate the system by translating information into controlled motion.

Together, these elements determine how efficiently and accurately a robot performs.

We focus on delivering these foundational technologies. We do not build robots, we enable them. Our solutions serve as the building blocks that OEMs integrate into their systems to create differentiated products.

Solving the Core Challenges in Robotics

As robotics continues to evolve, several challenges are shaping development:

  • Maximizing torque while minimizing weight
  • Improving efficiency to reduce heat and energy consumption
  • Increasing precision for more complex tasks

Efficiency plays a critical role beyond performance. Systems that generate excess heat must be performance-limited or require additional cooling, which can impact reliability and safety. This is especially important in applications like surgical robotics, where precise, controlled motion is essential.

Weight is equally important. In multi-joint robotic systems, each joint must carry the load of everything beyond it. Reducing weight improves speed, lowers power requirements, and enhances safety across the entire system.

Advancements such as gallium nitride (GaN) power technology are helping address these needs by enabling smaller, higher-performing motion systems.

Enabling the Next Era of Robotics

For years, robots had the ability to move but limited autonomy. Today, advances in AI are changing that.

By combining intelligent systems with high-performance motion, robots are becoming more capable across applications such as warehouse automation, surgical systems, and emerging humanoid technologies.

This shift toward physical AI is creating new possibilities. Intelligent systems can now translate decisions into real-world actions, increasing the value robots deliver.

The Next Frontier: Dexterity

One of the next major challenges in robotics is dexterity.

While robots can move and position objects today, replicating the precision and adaptability of the human hand remains difficult. Advanced robotic hands require many small motors working together in a compact space.

Achieving this level of performance will require continued innovation in sensing, miniaturization, and motion control.

Building What Comes Next

The future of robotics will be built through continuous improvement at every level of the system.

It starts with motion.

By making robotic joints smaller, lighter, and more efficient and precise, we enable new possibilities for what robots can do.

As robotics and AI continue to converge, these foundational technologies will play an even greater role in shaping the future.

In the end, every movement matters.
