Every year on May 17, people around the world observe the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT). The date commemorates a pivotal moment in 1990 when the World Health Organization officially declassified homosexuality as a disease.

More than three decades later, this day remains as relevant as ever.

The 2026 theme, “At the heart of democracy,” highlights the connection between inclusive societies and strong democratic systems. True progress depends on ensuring that every individual, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, has equal access to rights, safety, and opportunity.

Despite meaningful advances, the data tells a more complex story:

  • Workplace openness among LGBTQ+ individuals has declined in recent years
  • Many LGBTQ+ young people continue to face discrimination and abuse
  • Legal and social protections remain uneven globally

IDAHOBIT serves both as a celebration of progress and a call to action. It invites organizations, institutions, and individuals to reflect on their role in fostering inclusion and equity.

At our company, we believe innovation thrives when people feel safe to contribute their ideas and perspectives. We are building inclusive environments to strengthen collaboration and drive better outcomes, knowing this supports everyone’s long-term success.

We celebrate the progress made while recognizing there is more work ahead. LGBTQ+ communities still face discrimination in many forms, and continued awareness is critical to driving change.

Whether you identify as LGBTQ+, an ally, or are still learning, there is a place for you in this conversation. Showing up with courage, supporting others, and leading with kindness are actions that help move inclusion forward.

This day is not only about awareness. It is about action. By continuing to learn, engage, and support one another, we help create environments where everyone can thrive.
