We know that meaningful progress often starts with simple actions.

Earlier this summer, employees at our site in Berlin, Germany, participated in the Bike-to-Work Challenge 2026, a two-week initiative organized by our Environmental Sustainability affinity group and Sustainability team. The goal was straightforward: encourage employees to choose cycling over driving whenever possible and experience the benefits of a healthier, more sustainable commute.

What happened next exceeded expectations.

Twenty-two employees participated in the challenge, collectively cycling 3,044.5 kilometers between June 22 and July 3. By replacing car journeys with bicycle rides, participants helped avoid an estimated 609 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.

While those environmental benefits are worth celebrating, the greatest impact may have been the sense of community created along the way.

Employees shared routes and encouraged one another as they built connections with colleagues across different teams. The challenge became more than a sustainability initiative. It became an opportunity to build relationships and support personal wellbeing, demonstrating how collective action can drive positive change.

The enthusiasm shown throughout the event reflected something we see across our company every day: Employees are passionate about finding ways to make a difference, whether through innovation or sustainability

The challenge also highlighted how individual choices contribute to broader environmental goals. One bike ride may seem small on its own, but when employees come together around a shared purpose, the results can be significant.

We’re especially proud to recognize the challenge’s top three riders who rode more than 230 km. Their commitment helped inspire participation across the site and showed what is possible through consistency and dedication.

As we continue advancing our sustainability efforts, initiatives like the Bike-to-Work Challenge remind us that progress is not always driven by large-scale changes. Sometimes it starts with a simple decision to leave the car at home, get on a bike, and take a different route to work.

Following the success of this year’s event, our Environmental Sustainability affinity group is exploring additional opportunities to encourage sustainable habits and employee engagement. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to create positive impact together.
