Supporting local communities is about more than financial contributions. Sometimes, the greatest impact comes from people rolling up their sleeves and working together on a shared goal.
That was exactly the spirit behind a recent Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Day, when the Operational Purchasing team, from Ludwigsstadt, Germany, spent a day supporting Ebersdorf Kindergarten in Ebersdorf, Germany.
The project focused on restoring and maintaining the kindergarten’s outdoor areas, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, cleaning garden borders, and collecting green waste for removal.
While the tasks themselves were straightforward, the impact extended far beyond landscaping.

Working Together for a Common Purpose
The day began with an unexpected challenge as rainy weather threatened to disrupt the team’s plans. Fortunately, the conditions improved later in the afternoon, allowing volunteers to complete all scheduled work.
By the end of the day, the transformation was easy to see. The outdoor spaces were refreshed and ready for the children who use them every day.
Just as importantly, the project gave colleagues an opportunity to work together in a different setting, strengthening relationships while contributing to a meaningful cause.

Creating Local Impact
Outdoor spaces play an important role in the daily experience of young children. By helping maintain these areas, the team contributed to an environment where children can play, learn, and spend time outdoors.
The staff at Ebersdorf Kindergarten were grateful for the support and appreciated the care and effort that went into the project.
The experience serves as a reminder that meaningful impact often begins with simple actions and a willingness to help.
More Than a Volunteer Day
Volunteer initiatives like this one create benefits in multiple ways. Communities receive practical support, while employees have an opportunity to connect and contribute beyond their day-to-day responsibilities.
For the Operational Purchasing Team, the VTO Day was an opportunity to strengthen team relationships, give back locally, and see the immediate results of their efforts.
The day concluded with a shared dinner and plenty of stories from a successful project, leaving participants with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed appreciation for the power of teamwork and community service.
