The most meaningful community events often begin long before the first participant arrives.

Days before runners gathered for the 24th Run of Hope in Kronach, Germany, volunteers were already hard at work preparing the venue. Equipment needed to be moved and spaces needed to be organized to support the hundreds of people expected to attend.

Among those volunteers were eight employees from our site in Ludwigsstadt, Germany, who dedicated part of their day to helping prepare the event through our Volunteer Time Off program.

Their task centered on assembling two large event tents. While that may sound straightforward, the project required teamwork and a willingness to tackle whatever challenge came next. When they arrived, the tents existed only as stacks of materials and individual components. By the end of the afternoon, those components had become two fully constructed gathering spaces ready to support the event.

What stands out is not simply the finished tents, but the collective effort behind them. Every person contributed. Some carried equipment while others assembled sections of the structures, but everyone worked toward the same objective. The project reminded me that community impact often comes from many small actions working together toward a larger purpose.

The Run of Hope brings people together around an important cause: supporting those affected by cancer and demonstrating the strength of community. Our employees did not organize the event or stand in the spotlight. Instead, they provided support behind the scenes so the event could succeed.

Those contributions matter just as much. Strong communities depend on people who are willing to help where they can. Sometimes that means leading an initiative and sometimes it means spending an afternoon carrying equipment and erecting tents so others can come together the next day.

The image of our volunteers standing in front of the completed tents captures more than a successful setup effort. It represents the positive impact that can happen when employees, community organizations, and volunteers unite around a shared goal.

We are grateful to the employees who participated and proud that we support opportunities for volunteerism. Their efforts helped prepare the grounds for an event that has brought hope to the community for many years, proving that even a few hours of service can make a lasting difference.
