When organizations talk about global collaboration, the focus often lands on challenges, such as time zones or communication styles. Each culture has such different ways of working.

The reality is more powerful: When we understand and align across cultures, those differences become a competitive advantage.

Our recent production transfer across Germany and the Czech Republic, influenced by teams from the United States, shows exactly how this works.

Three Cultures, Three Strengths

Each region brought a distinct approach:

  • A focus on detailed planning and precision
  • A bias for speed and action
  • A practical mindset centered on execution

Individually, each approach has limits. Together, they create balance.

The challenge is not eliminating differences. It is aligning them.

A Clear Operating Model

We aligned teams around a simple principle: Transfer fast. Improve later.

By first replicating processes exactly, we ensured consistency and quality. Then, once stable, teams improved performance through structured continuous improvement.

This allowed us to combine speed with discipline, which is critical in regulated manufacturing environments.

Investing in Trust and Communication

Alignment does not happen through process alone.

We built integrated teams across locations, encouraged in-person collaboration, and created space for informal connection. These efforts built trust, which is essential when teams are navigating complexity together.

We also reinforced a consistent communication approach:

  • Clear direction on what we are doing and why
  • Transparency wherever possible
  • Realistic commitments, not overpromising

The Role of Shared Values

In a global organization, our values are more than statements. They are a common language.

By linking values directly to actions and decisions, we ensured teams across regions understood what success looks like and how to achieve it.

Turning Differences into Advantage

The outcome was not just a successful transfer.

It was a stronger way of working:

  • Faster execution without sacrificing quality
  • Better decision-making through diverse perspectives
  • Increased adaptability in complex environments

Global teams perform best when they do not try to work the same way.

They perform best when they understand each other and build something better together.
